Energy Soup for relief from Menstrual pangs

This is a recipe that is intended for women who suffer from pain during their menstrual period. The ingredients are common to south Indian kitchens, and I have tried my best to put the English translations for the same.

Ingredients:

Shallot (சாம்பார் வெங்காயம்) - 2 nos.
Garlic clove (பூண்டு) - 3 pcs
Tomato medium sized (தக்காளி) - 2 nos
Mint leaves (புதினா) - 10-15 leaves
Coriander (கொத்தமல்லி) - 10-15 leaves
Curry leaves (கருவேப்பிலை) - 10-15 leaves
Pepper corn (முழு மிளகு) - 1 Tablespoon
Cumin seeds (சீரகம்) - 2 Tablespoon
Fenugreek (வெந்தயம்) - 1 Tablespoon
Turmeric powder (மஞ்சத்தூள்) - 1/4 Teaspoon
Asafoetida powder (பெருங்காயம்) - 1/4 Teaspoon
Tamarind extract (புளி  சாறு ) - 1/4 cup
Oil (தேங்காய் எண்ணெய்) - 1 Tablespoon
Ghee (நெய்) - 1/2 Tablespoon
Boiled Potato medium size (உருளைக்கிழங்கு) - 2 nos
Carrot (காரட்) - 1 no
Sundal/Channa dal, Pacha payir/green mung dal, Karamani/Black Eyed Bean(White or Brown) - Each dal one table spoon (soak in water for 2 hrs)
Jaggery - 3 table spoon

Preparation:

  • Heat one table spoon oil & ghee in a fry pan
  • Add tomato and carrot pieces into it and saute for two mins.
  • Now add garlic,shallot,pepper,fenugreek,cumin seeds,mint ,curry & coriender leaves saute for two mins and add turmeric powder & salt for taste.
  • Now grind all the above in a mixer with tamarind extract and jaggery and make a paste.
  • Mix the paste with two cups of water and boil it for five mins.
  • Before serving add 1/4 of boiled milk.
Note : You can refrigate and use it for two days.
